Weird Tales and Blackstone Publishing have announced a major new partnership, with Blackstone planning to publish 50 new books in five years under the banner “Weird Tales Presents.”
Titles will include “original novels and anthologies, compilations, and more, penned by some of the biggest names in horror and dark fiction, while also introducing new voices,” with print, e-book, and audiobook editions planned. Blackstone will also distribute the digital and audio version of Weird Tales magazine. The first titles will appear in Fall 2022, and in Fall 2023 they plan to release the 100 Year Weird Tales Commemorative Anthology, “which reimagines original works from the 1920’s and 30’s.”
Blackstone head Josh Stanton and executive Rick Bleiwess made the deal with John Harlacher, president and publisher of Weird Tales, vice-president Tony Eldridge, and editor Jonathan Maberry. Nicole Resciniti of the Seymour Agency handled negotiations.
Weird Tales debuted in 1923, launching the careers of major authors including Ray Bradbury, Robert E. Howard, H.P. Lovecraft, Clark Ashton Smith, and more. The magazine has changed hands many times since, sometimes with long hiatuses in publication; Harlacher acquired the magazine in 2011, and Maberry joined as editor in 2019. Blackstone Publishing is an independent publisher founded in 1987, and has a catalog of around 13,000 titles.
